2. Why can I not see any remote objects when I create a mapping?

The first step in this situation is to test your application link, to ensure that your outgoing authentication is correct. The easiest way to do this is to use the 'Test Connection' link available from the application links interface.

If the application link is authenticating correctly, it might still be pointing at the wrong place. Users upgrading from previous versions of the connector in particular should note that the remote location has changed. The application link should be pointing at the base URL of your Salesforce.com application, for example https://www.salesforce.com.
